EVENT:Wyoming Junior Duck Stamp Art Contest entries due
DATE:3/15/2018
DETAILS:Wyoming Junior Duck Stamp Art Contest entries due March 15

GREEN RIVER—The 2018 Junior Duck Stamp Program is in full flight and all Wyoming students, grades kindergarten through 12, are welcome to participate.
This dynamic art and science program is designed to connect America's youth to wetlands, habitat and waterfowl conservation. Junior Duck Stamp participants can employ scientific and wildlife observation principles to learn about the subject matter, and then communicate that knowledge visually by creating an entry to the Junior Duck Stamp Art Contest. This pairing of subjects ideally sparks interest in both the sciences and arts in students throughout the state, while fostering a greater awareness and conservation ethic toward our nation’s natural resources.

Wyoming students can find artwork requirements and entry forms at www.fws.gov/refuge/seedskadee/wyjrduck and then submit their artwork by March 15th to:

Seedskadee National Wildlife Refuge, 37 miles North on Hwy 372, PO Box 700, Green River, WY 82935

The artwork is judged in four groups, according to grade level. Over 100 awards are given each year to the top Wyoming stamp designs. A “best of show” is chosen by the judges from the first-place winners. Each state’s best of show is submitted to the Duck Stamp Office in Washington D.C. and entered into the national contest. Wyoming's 2015 Best of Show by Andrew Kneeland of Rock Springs, placed 1st in the nation and was printed on the 2015-2016 Junior Duck Stamp.

The first-place design from the national contest is used to create the official Junior Duck Stamp for the following year. These stamps are sold by the U.S. Postal Service and Amplex for $5 each. Proceeds from sales support environmental education, and provide awards and scholarships for the students, teachers, and schools that participate in the program. Entries must be postmarked by March 15, 2018.

For entry forms, artwork requirements, program curriculum and more details on how Wyoming students, teachers, and schools in your area can participate in this fun educational program, contact Wyoming State Coordinator, Katie Theule at katie_theule@fws.gov or visit: www.fws.gov/refuge/seedskadee/wyjrduck
